The Division of Information Technology (IT) is Florida International University's central technology service provider and is lead under the direction of Dr. Min Yao, Vice President and Chief Information Officer. It consists of four technology organizational units, including University Technology Services (UTS), the IT Security Office (ITSO), the Center for Internet Augmented Research and Assessment (CIARA) and the Office of the CIO.
Dr. Min Yao has more than fourteen years of senior leadership experience in information technology services. Dr. Yao took office as the Vice President of Information Technology and Chief Information Officer at Florida International University in January of 2007. Dr. Yao leads a division of more than 200 IT professionals and is responsible for all aspects of the University's technology services, including instructional technology, administrative computing, academic computing, network and telecommunications, helpdesk and user support services, and information security.
Preceding his work at FIU, for more than five years, Dr. Yao served as the
Chief Information Officer and Associate Vice President of Information Technology
at California State University Dominguez Hills. Prior to his work at Cal State
Dominguez Hills, Dr. Yao served as Vice President for Information Technology
and CIO at College of the Siskiyous in California.
Additionally, in 2001, Dr. Yao served on the accreditation evaluation team for the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges (ACCJC) of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC). From 2001 through 2004, Dr. Yao was the primary technical representative for California State University system on IMS Global Learning Consortium INC, the leading international learning technology member organization. In 1993, Dr. Yao served as a management consultant for the Canadian Association of Community Colleges at its joint management training program in Chengdu, China. In 1994, Dr. Yao was a management consultant sponsored by the International Education Bureau of British Columbia at Anshan Teachers University.
Dr. Yao earned his B.A. in English from Dalian University of Foreign Languages, his M.A. in applied linguistics from Shanghai Teachers University, his Ed.D. in educational administration from US International University at San Diego, and his Ph.D. in educational psychology from the University of British Columbia.
