To promote an environment for effortless collaboration within FIU’s units, the Division of IT offers various cloud services for faculty and staff.
Office 365 is a way to use Microsoft Office products both in the cloud and at your workstation. As part of our Microsoft license, we have access to this offering and are using it to power our email services. Microsoft’s cloud environment is a secure place on the Internet where we can store data and documents, whether it’s in our mailboxes or within our OneDrive for Business accounts. We have access to these services from anywhere that we have Internet access.
Some benefits include:
- 50 GB quota for employee mailboxes
- Unlimited collaborative cloud file storage
- Customizable themes for web interface
- Online archive mailbox with unlimited space
- Integration of the web interface with the Lync messaging system (FIUchat)
- Access to web versions of Word, Excel and other Office applications
- Continued compatibility with a wide variety of mobile devices including smartphones and tablets

OneDrive for Business
OneDrive for Business is an FIU employee cloud file storage option offered by Microsoft Office 365. OneDrive is accessible via browser or native app for Windows, Mac OSX, and the major mobile OS platforms. OneDrive is provisioned on-demand and can sync content to local folders on all supported OS. FIU employees can share content from their accounts to all or specific faculty and staff, and can also collaborate real-time on Office files.
Enterprise SharePoint Environments
SharePoint is Microsoft’s enterprise content management and collaboration platform, and is widely used across almost every major industry. It is a collaboration and content management system developed by Microsoft and designed with integration with the Office desktop suite of tools. SharePoint offers secure web access to file and list content as well as reporting, capabilities, workflows, and process automation. The Division of IT currently maintains enterprise-wide SharePoint farms focused towards internal collaboration, collaboration with external parties, and Internet-facing content management. A growing number of business and academic paperless processes are being automated through SharePoint throughout the University to reduce cost and streamline operations. The enterprise file servers provide departmental and workgroup file shares (network drives) for most departments on the enterprise Active Directory environments. The Division of IT managed print servers offer a mechanism whereby unit-owned network printers across all campuses can be managed, secured and assigned to endpoints.
