The Division of Information Technology (DoIT) provides the University with all its telephony needs. We provide phone lines, equipment including video endpoints, unified messaging, inbound call centers, emergency communications and more. To request a service, please contact the Division of IT Customer Service by submitting a request via our Online Service Request System or by calling (305) 348-2284.

New Telephone Lines
To open a new telephone line, contact us via the Division of IT Support Center by submitting a request via our Online Service Request System or by calling (305) 348-2284.
Inbound 800 Toll Free Numbers
This toll free number allows callers to dial FIU numbers without incurring toll charges. Departments owning the toll free service will incur all usage charges
Reservation-less Audio Conference Calling*
Reservation-less Voice Conference Services (VCS) provides on-demand conferencing, allowing you to initiate a conference 24 hours a day, 7 days a week – without the need to make a reservation. View instructions, pricing information, and frequently asked questions.
Conference Phone Rental

The Division of IT Voice Services department is not-for-profit, and our pricing is designed to cover the cost of providing our services to the University. For more information about our pricing, view our price list.

Local/Long Distance Dialing
University phones are able to dial within the FIU telephone system (5 digits) and the local calling area (10 digits). With authorization from the department, a line can be enabled for domestic and/or international long distance access.

If you would like to request long distance services, please submit our Long Distance Request form.
Initiate a Conference Call
While on a call, press “More” then press “Conf”. When you will hear a dial tone, dial the party you wish to add to your call. Once the third party answers, press “Conf” key again and the first party will be added to your call. The conference party limit is 8. To add additional parties, repeat the process until all participants are on your conference call.
Immediate Divert (iDivert)
iDivert is a softkey option that will appear on your phone when you are receiving an incoming call. By pressing this button, as soon as you hear the phone start ringing, you can immediately route the caller to your voicemail box. Please note that in order to use this feature you must already have voicemail on your line.
Do not Disturb (DND)
The DND feature allows you to temporarily suppress the ringtone on your phone. To enable the DND feature, press the “More” softkey and then press “DND”. The phone will display the message, “Do Not Disturb is active”. Once you have enabled the feature, if you receive a call, your phone will not ring. Instead, your phone will beep once and display the information for the incoming call. To disable the DND feature press the “More” softkey again and then press “DND”.
Update your Directory Listing
For directory assistance to the FIU community call 305-348-2000. You can request departmental, faculty or staff telephone listings, driving directions to FIU, and other general information. To modify your directory listing, visit phonebook.fiu.edu.
FIU’s voicemail system is available on your FIU telephone by dialing 7-4000 or 7-8000 if you have unified messaging enabled. Additionally, you can access your voicemail from any phone outside of FIU by calling calling (305) 348-4000 or (305)348-8000 if you have unified messaging enabled. To access your voicemail messages, press * followed by your 5-digit extension and enter your PIN. If you forget or lose your voicemail PIN, reset your PIN by contacting us via the Division of IT Support Center at (305) 348-2284.

Our voicemail system is integrated with FIU’s Microsoft Exchange email servers to provide faculty and staff with a Unified Messaging environment. With this feature, FIU’s voice mail system will integrate seamlessly to your email inbox to provide a Unified Messaging environment.
With Unified Messaging, faculty and staff will have the ability to access their voicemail within their email inbox. You will also be able to check your email messages from within your voicemail inbox.
Through the Unified Messaging environment you may have the following services available:
- Accessibility to your FIUmail, calendar, and voicemail from any computer or phone (including smartphones)
- Ability to create rules where you can choose how your calls will be handled when you are unable to reach your phone.
